Noma Prevention Centers

In Birni N'Konni in Niger's Tahoua region, the Hilfsaktion opened the first vaccination center in January 2006. More than 22,000 vaccinations have been administered since then – both at the station and via mobile vaccination drives in villages. This way, children's immune systems can be strengthened, reducing the risk that they will fall prey to noma.

In 2007, the Hilfsaktion also began to treat extremely malnourished children to prevent them from getting noma.

A similar project has been under way in Sargadji in the Loga region since August 2005. Altogether, more than 24,000 children have been brought back to a normal weight and therefore did not have to suffer from noma.
